Inclement Weather Reminder

When inclement weather is in the forecast, the administration team gathers at 5:00am each day to consider the conditions around the school, your commutes, and those of our faculty members.  As you know, the weather in Seattle is not the easiest to predict!  Once a decision is made, we will notify our school community in the following ways:

  • The school website and social media accounts (follow us on Facebook and Twitter@stjohnschoolsea) will be updated to reflect the change in schedule.  Our website will always be the first media communication tool updated.
  • A text alert (SMS) will also be sent via SchoolMessenger to primary and secondary contacts with active mobile numbers listed in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

The school will communicate weather-related decisions by 6:00am unless conditions change during the school day.  If school is closed or delayed*, Extended Daycare will mirror the school schedule.  Should the school start time be delayed or canceled, hot lunch may be impacted and those changes will be communicated.  As always, we will make these decisions based on the safety of all involved.

*During Covid-19 we are operating on staggered schedules.  Should snow impact our school day, the administration will likely move to cancel school for the day versus announcing a delayed start.  Remote learning would not be offered unless we remain out of school for an extended period. Please continue to observe our daily messaging during an extended closure.

Please ensure all mobile numbers for your primary and secondary contacts are updated and current in PowerSchool if you wish to receive SMS notifications.  Additionally, please update your emergency contacts in PowerSchool if you have not done so already.

Our very own Facilities team is ready to keep the campus cleared and safe for families and students.
