Principal’s Letter

Private Schools Month is declared by the Governor!

The State of Washington Proclamation

WHEREAS, Washington is home to more than five-hundred non-public schools approved by the Washington State Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, these schools – through the active participation and commitment of their sponsoring communities, leadership, faculty, staff, families, and volunteers – are committed to the education of their students; and

WHEREAS, these schools have been instrumental in supporting the state’s mandate for safety during the COVID-19 crisis in conjunction with fulfilling their paramount duty to educate students; and

WHEREAS, by providing these safe learning environments, non-public schools are crucial partners in our Washington State education system;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jay Inslee, Governor of the state of Washington, do hereby proclaim February, 2021, as Private Schools Month in Washington, and I encourage all people in our state to join me in this special observance.

Governor Jay Inslee

This is a most deserving recognition for our schools and for all here at St. John.  Congratulations to the faculty and staff whose commitment and dedication are so admirable, and to you, parents, who are diligent and supportive in your efforts to keep our community safe and healthy.

As some of you may have heard, the Yonder Cider Co, which opened up several months ago will be closing its retail space on 1st Ave.  Click for further info.

This week, we also celebrate that all grades are back on campus.  It is heartening to hear the chatter in all the classrooms.  However, some of that chatter is about travel plans for the long weekend.  Thank you to the families who let us know that they will quarantine after the mid-winter break.  I will repeat: it is our collective effort that will keep us open.  Everyone must observe all the guidelines:  If you find yourself in a large gathering, take extra precautions; if you travel outside the state, you must quarantine. Though the CDC has issued new guidance on the number of days to quarantine following travel, the school will continue to use the standard set by our Governor and Public Health – Seattle & King County:  a 14-day quarantine after out-of-state travel.  Under special circumstances, a 10-day quarantine or a 7- day quarantine with a negative test may be considered.  Thank you, together we can…keep our students in the classrooms.

Let’s have the chatter be about the Auction!  It’s right around the corner.  Rock on St. John!  Start listening to your favorite bands and planning your bidding strategy!  Auction items are coming in daily.  We had a kayak and a paddleboard float into the office recently, and boxes of all sizes are delivered daily.  Auction team, I hope you get some rest this weekend.  Thank you for all the hours of hard work that you are committing to St. John!

Run out of videos to stream at home?  Check out the last installment of the talents shared by our very own St. John students.  Enjoy Part 3 of the Virtual Talent Show.

Happy Lunar New Year, Happy Valentine’s Day, Happy Presidents’ Day and be careful in the snow!  Enjoy the long weekend,
