Principal’s Letter

It was an exciting weekend for the St. John community! Full of students, current and former, families, friends and volunteers, the community cheered off campus at our many soccer games and at the Seattle Prep Math Contest, and we cheered on campus as we celebrated Michele Thornquist and 100 years of St. John at the Endowment event.

The Endowment was a huge success! Michele Thornquist and her family were delighted with the reception. Thank you and congratulations to Karen Bombino, Jonna Skokan and the entire team for organizing the event. Thank you to Ethan Stowell Restaurants and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates for the delicious meal and wine and to DJ Allan for the video presentations and music!

Our soccer players didn’t need any music to keep them moving. We had a successful end to the season with many teams advancing through the playoffs. The 7th and 8th grade boys are playing in the championships this Saturday! I am even more pleased with the reports of good St. John sportsmanship – both from our parents and parents of other schools. Well done, St. John!

Witches, ghosts, saints and souls will be on our minds next week. On Monday (10/31), students in grades PreK-5 will enjoy the Halloween Carnival organized by middle school students. On Tuesday (11/1), we have all-school Mass to celebrate All Saints Day. Don’t forget Dress Uniform. The intermediate grades will celebrate Dia de Los Muertos on Wednesday (11/2), and on Thursday (11/3), we will host PreK & Kindergarten Open House; if you have friends or neighbors interested in St. John, be sure to invite them to the Open House!

Two housekeeping items to keep in mind: be sure to check Lost and Found – it’s overflowing with jackets, sweatshirts, hats and hoodies. Check in with Mrs. Q. before you head that way. Forecasts of rain look to be in our foreseeable future. Barring severely inclement weather, students will be outside for recess. Please ensure your student arrives with a coat suitable for the weather and sturdy shoes. Umbrellas for students are not allowed during recess.

I end on a bittersweet note as we say farewell to Josh Stutzman, Facilities Manager. Josh is taking a job closer to home at St. Brendan’s. Thank you for your energy and innovation, Josh. Best of luck in your new position; you will be missed! We welcome back Steven D’Amelio as Interim Facilities Manager; it’s great to have you back, Steven!

Blessings,

Bernadette O’Leary
