Dedication of Kelly Latimore’s Mama at St. John the Evangelist Church

St. John’s church contains many statues, paintings and icons that depict Jesus, Mary and the Communion of Saints as white people while providing no representation of people of color. One important and visible way to be more inclusive is to add depictions of people of color to our church. Towards that end, we are happy to dedicate a new permanent art piece, titled Mama by Kelly Latimore, on December 11 at 11:45am, following the 10:30am mass.

Mama was created by the artist following the death of George Floyd and is evocative of the Pieta – a mother mourning her son. Following the dedication, the Social Justice Committee invites everyone to the  Admin building to celebrate the dedication of Mama, talk about racism and inclusivity, both inside and outside the church, and discuss how St. John can be more inclusive to all.

Advent Wreath Party!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Advent Wreath Party after Mass last Sunday. After two years, it was great to finally come together in person and enjoy coffee, donuts and treats! About 55 families came to make their Advent wreaths, including Fr. Crispin. Also a shout-out to the amazing volunteers: Anna Brunette, Rebecca Wagner, Jacqueline Erbe and Zola Rossano; we could not have done this without you.

Make Your Stewardship Pledge for 2023 TODAY!

Asante sana to the over 70 families who have made their Stewardship pledge for 2023. We ask that each family prayerfully discern their financial commitment to St. John for the coming year.

The weekly offertory helps sustain our parish financially and serve the ministries at St. John and in the wider community. Because of rising costs and lower collections, we experienced a budget shortfall in the last fiscal year. To help meet our budget for this year, Fr. Crispin asks that if you are able, would you consider increasing your pledge? Just $3 per week will go a long way. To pledge, click here.

If you haven’t watched this year’s State of the Parish, please take a look. It is available on the Parish website at www.stjohnsea.org. School Families: One of the criteria to remain eligible for Parish Fair Share Tuition is to watch the video of the State of the Parish presentation. You can access it on the Parish website now.

Mass & a Movie! Calling All Families with Kids Ages Preschool-3rd Grade!

Please join us on Saturday, December 10 for Mass at 5pm followed by pizza and a movie in the Admin Building. We encourage everyone to wear a Christmas sweater or outfit to Mass and bring your comfiest items (jammies, a stuffy, pillow, etc.) to get cozy during the movie. Parents need to stay with their kids at this event, and there will be a basket for donations to help cover the cost of the pizza. We will be showing “The Star,” the story of the first Christmas seen through the eyes of the animals in the manger. Check out the trailer here. Please contact Rachael Groark to RSVP (so we have enough pizza!) or if you have questions at rachaelgroark@gmail.com.
