Principal’s Letter

The Accreditation Team has left the building! The team members had warm praise for students, teachers, parents, and the community in general. Their Report of Findings will now be sent to the WCEA accreditation board for further review in April. We will then be fully accredited for another six-year term. The students wore their dress uniforms with pride for the visit, so tomorrow, they may have free dress! (Free dress guidelines can be found on page 65 of the Family Handbook.)

Today also saw our students celebrating the 100th day of school. Students celebrated the 100th day through reading, counting, threading, coloring, beading and so much more. Middle school students worked on GLOW math to celebrate 100 days, and Assistant Principal Kelley, juggled with fire to celebrate the occasion!

Congratulations to the seventh-grade boys’ basketball team who played in the championship game this past Saturday. It was a physical and intense game, and though they didn’t win, they are winners in our eyes. They played their hearts out and held fast to the tenants of the Prayer for Middle School Sports…”that we may participate to the best of our abilities / and with a true spirit of thankfulness…” We are so proud of them.

Following Mid-Winter Holidays we will return to school on Ash Wednesday, and Lent begins. Mass will be at 9am during which the children will come forward, and Fr. Crispin will make the sign of the cross on their foreheads using ashes from the Palm Sunday palms. This year, as we travel the Lenten journey, the Stations of the Cross will be at 8:20am each Friday. Students will go to church straight from the playground.

I end this letter praying for Father’s swift recovery from COVID and wishing you, St. John families, a safe and restful Mid-Winter Holiday. May we all come back refreshed and ready to learn and grow.
