Counselor’s Corner
Happy October! I have so enjoyed getting to know and reconnect with everyone since the start of school. With a month of school under our belts, students seem settled and back into the rhythm of the days. With that in mind as the school counselor, I’d like to share a friendly chat about something that can make a world of difference in our kids’ lives: routines!
Routines might not sound thrilling, but they can be like magical spells that can unlock our kids’ potential. They can make mornings smoother, homework more manageable and bedtime less of a battleground. Routines teach our kids the invaluable skill of managing their time effectively. Knowing what to expect reduces stress and can be a shield against the unpredictability of growing up. Routines help our kids stay on track and concentrate on their tasks. Routines can be the foundation for our kids’ success and happiness.
I encourage you to check out this article from Sound Discipline on the value of routines and suggestions for ways to create them at home. As always, please feel free to contact me at smanley@st-johnschool.org. I work with students and families throughout the week and am happy to help you in whatever way I can!
October Resources
- National Bullying Prevention Month: In October, we recognize National Bullying Prevention Month to highlight the importance of fostering a community of inclusion, safety, and respect. Bullying isn’t a childhood rite of passage; it has real implications for a child’s education, health, and safety today and in the future. Bullying can leave devastating and often long-term effects such as a loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression for all involved. This month is a time to unite nationally to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention, www.stopbullying.gov.
- Care Solace: St. John School, through the Archdiocese of Seattle, has partnered with Care Solace to support the well-being of students, staff, and their family members.
