Emergency and/or Weather Closures

On Tuesday all students and staff participated in an extended disaster preparedness drill, The Great Shakeout.  As part of this drill staff reviewed protocols for communicating school delays, closures due to inclement weather, or even emergencies.  When weather or an emergency causes a change in schedule, we will notify our school community the following ways:

  • The school website and social media accounts (follow us on Facebook and Twitter @stjohnschoolsea) will be updated to reflect the change in schedule.  Our website will always be the first communication tool updated.
  • A text alert (SMS) will be sent via SchoolMessenger to primary and secondary contacts with active mobile numbers listed in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Local news stations will be notified of closures/schedule changes.

The school will communicate weather related decisions by 6:00am unless conditions change during the day.  If school is closed or delayed, Extended Daycare will mirror the school schedule.  If school is closed, after school activities, practices and games are canceled for that day.  Should the school start time be delayed, activities and hot lunch may be impacted by late starts and those changes will be communicated via email.  As always, we will make these decisions based on the safety of all involved.

Please ensure all mobile numbers for your primary and secondary contacts are updated and current in PowerSchool if you wish to receive SMS notifications.  Additionally, please update your emergency contacts in PowerSchool if you have not done so already.
