COMMUNITY ~ ACADEMICS ~ FAITH
St. John School is a welcoming Catholic community, committed to celebrating diversity and inspiring moral development, academic excellence, and the courage to act for the common good.
St. John Catholic School is a strong, vibrant and inclusive community. We value Catholic moral teachings, embrace diversity and inspire academic excellence. Our Mission and Philosophy strive to educate the whole child, encouraging students to achieve, persevere, and serve others. We do this in partnership with parents/guardians and St. John the Evangelist Parish.
We Believe in Welcoming All Families
A defining characteristic of St. John School is our commitment to making Catholic education accessible to all who value it. Our Fair Share program provides assistance to families with financial need and creates a socio-diverse student body. Not only a tuition model, Fair Share calls upon each community member to give through volunteerism, fundraising and active participation in school endeavors. Fair Share is inherent to the school’s mission of building an inclusive community. See how the Fair Share model works: Fair Share
We Believe in Being Missionary Disciples
Sixty-three percent of school families belong to St. John Parish and actively participate in building a faith-filled community. Sacraments are celebrated throughout the liturgical year. Advent and Lenten activities, along with student and staff retreats, help students and staff grow in our faith. Strong support of Parish ministries permeates the Parish and School mission. Students attend weekly and monthly all-school Masses and participate in celebrating the Eucharist. Our Missionary Discipleship programs offer students opportunities for “encounter” with both local and global ministries. St. John the Evangelist Parish
We Believe in Academic Excellence
St. John School is a fully accredited PreK-Grade 8 school with over 500 students. Our student body models the Schoolwide Learning Expectations. Collectively, our students are Active Learners who exceed National and Archdiocesan academic standards and Christ-centered people motivated to act for the common good. Our graduates represent St. John School at Catholic, private and public high schools across the city. Students who desire a Catholic high school experience are accepted at a 99% success rate. The school’s most recent Accreditation by the Western Catholic Educational Association was completed in February 2022. We Believe in Our Teachers and Staff
Our tenured teaching staff is made up of 85% of teachers with Master’s degrees. A Student Support Team, along with Instructional Assistants, supplement the overall educational experience. Specialists provide enrichment in Art, Library, Makerspace, Spanish, Music and Physical Education classes. A full-time counselor supports students’ social-emotional well-being. Elective classes at the middle school level afford teachers and parents the opportunity to share with students their gifts in other academic domains: Robotics, Speech, Pottery, Digital Design, Video Production and beyond. Our community believes in providing and supporting teachers and staff with a just wage commensurate with the cost of living in Seattle. See our community in action: St. John Facebook
We Believe in Planning for the Future
A strong administrative team and active school advisory board work in unison with the Parish to ensure the operational vitality of the school. An updated Strategic Plan will be published in 2024. The plan provides a roadmap for continued school improvement in the areas of Academic Excellence, Catholic Identity, Governance and Leadership and Operational Vitality. A State of School presentation each January provides current parents with yearly updates on the academic, spiritual and strategic successes of the school. We Believe in Creating a Positive Parent-School Partnership
St. John is a community of collaborators. Inspired by our mission, together we strive to create a vibrant and welcoming community. Faculty, staff and families work together to educate the whole child, offering students the opportunity to grow academically, spiritually and socially. A motivated Parent Association supports the overall community experience by organizing and delivering family events, parent education nights and service opportunities. Beyond tuition, families give to the community in ways that enrich the overall student experience and support our Fair Share philosophy. See our success: Annual Report l Parent Association
