Greenwood Construction: Public Comment Period is Open

Another round of public comments is now open for the 79th and Greenwood Construction project.  The public comment period closes June 15, 2020 – make sure the city hears your voice!

While the school is supportive of providing housing options for residents in our community, we are concerned about how this proposed 6-story, 72-unit apartment building with retail, and parking for a few vehicles, will impact:

  • Safety of our students     The proposed parking entrance for vehicles is on 79th Street, off Greenwood Ave, right where many of our students pass walking to and from school.
  • Parking     Parking for parents and staff is already challenging for our community.  Adding in 72 units with limited spaces will compound this congestion, making it harder for parents and local residents to park.
  • Traffic flow     The addition of this building will potentially disrupt our local traffic flows, which are important for safe and timely drop-off and pick-up.

St. John School Administration, the Parish, and the Archdiocese of Seattle have been tracking this project since July 2019 and have submitted formal letters.  Many of you submitted letters during the last public comment period advocating for design considerations to support student safety.  Thank you.

More information can be found here.  Please take a minute to share your comments by emailing PRC@seattle.gov, referencing Project 3032858-LU.  This is your last opportunity to do so.  (Deadline is June 15, 2020)
