Parish News

Visit the Parish Website for detailed information about Mass schedules, special events, and the Parish e-newsletter. The following are highlights:

Unbound Masses     This weekend, please welcome Rev. Cyrus Gallagher O.F.M. Cap. who will be with us to celebrate Masses and tell us about the work of Unbound, a lay Catholic sponsorship ministry that helps children and elderly in 19 developing countries. The 10:30 Sunday Mass will be geared towards families with student readers. To learn more, call (800) 875-6564 or visit Unbound here.

Safe Environment Training at St. John for Volunteers    If you plan to volunteer on campus or in the classroom, coach, chaperone or drive for field trips, participate in the ministries of the church such as ushers, lectors, Eucharistic ministers, sacristans, CLOW, etc. you will need to complete Safe Environment Training. The next training will be on Monday, September 27, 6:30-9:00pm in Egan Hall. You must be vaccinated to attend this training and volunteer in the school.

The Archdiocese of Seattle requires all Church Personnel (defined as all clergy, all employees, and all volunteers who have ongoing, unsupervised contact with minors and vulnerable adults) to take part in our Safe Environment Program in three ways. They must:

  • Successfully undergo a criminal background check every three years
  • Complete the Protecting God’s Children course within 30 days of beginning service
  • Read and sign the Archdiocesan policies of conduct

You may complete these requirements by accessing the Virtus database, our Catholic Risk Retention Group focused on the prevention of abuse. New church personnel will need to create a Virtus profile (http://www.virtus.org/virtus/index.cfm) under the “Registration” tab.

If you have already taken the initial training, you will only need to update every three years. Sign in at the volunteer computer in the school office to find out if you are up to date. If you have questions or need to check your status, email Sheila Marty at smarty@stjohnsea.org.

ACA Update:  We Did It!     With the help of 104 families, we have reached our 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal goal of $91,896! Once again, the great community of St. John came together as one to offer support to the more than 60 ministries in Western Washington that the ACA funds.  The results of our All Parish Survey showed overwhelming support for continuing to live-stream the Masses, Sacraments and other events. To make this happen, we need a little more help. From this point forward, 100% of all donations to the ACA will come back to St. John. If you haven’t donated yet, please help us meet our stretch goal of $10,000 to fund our upgraded and permanent video and sound system in the church.

First Holy Communion     It is time to register for First Communion preparation! Families: do you have a child who will enter second grade this fall? Or, do you have an older child who has not yet had the opportunity to prepare for the sacrament? You can access the registration form on our website. Questions? Contact Julia Rudden, jrudden@stjohnsea.org.
