Traffic Update
Families, work on the large-scale build on the corner on N. 79th St. and Greenwood Ave. started today. There will be significant impacts on traffic flow around the campus and neighborhood. We ask you, members of the St. John community, to do your part to keep traffic mishaps from occurring: leave a little earlier, drive a little slower, park a little further, and please abide by traffic laws and guidelines. Let’s review:
- Review and share the traffic map provided by the school.
- Please no student drop-offs on 80th St. in front of the gate to the playground.
- Handicap parking spot on 80th St. (blue-painted curb) is reserved for those drivers with Handicap Parking Pass.
- Mind the Queue: In the afternoon, if the northbound turn lane of Greenwood Ave. is lined with cars waiting to access 79th St., please go to the back of the northbound car line. It is a traffic hazard to block the southbound bike/bus lane of Greenwood Ave. And please don’t cut the line.
- Respect our neighbors
- Do not block driveways. Parking too close to driveways limits neighbors’ access to their homes. It is also illegal to park within 5 feet of a driveway. Neighbors will report and photograph you. The school received several pictures today to be considered for the Parking Hall of Shame.
- Be mindful of keeping the air clean. Turn off engines; do not idle.
- Obey traffic laws
- Observe the red-painted curbs on 79th St. Leave sufficient space before the crosswalks. Parking too close to corners, crosswalks, and stop signs blocks the vision of drivers limiting their ability to see clearly the crossing guards and students crossing.
- Observe the speed limit.
- Make sure that you are parked legally. It is also illegal to park within 30 feet of a STOP sign.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended in the student load/unload zone (yellow painted curb on 79th St.).
