Reminder: Upcoming Events at St. John

The Seattle Opera at St. John

We are thrilled to announce that The Seattle Opera’s tour production of Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World is coming to St. John on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 1:45pm for students in grades K-5 and the Middle School Drama Elective.

Based on Laurence Anholt’s children’s book of the same name, the opera tells the story of Mariana, a young girl living in Mexico City who has her portrait painted by Frida Kahlo. At first, Mariana is nervous about meeting Frida but quickly befriends Frida and learns two important lessons: art can happen anywhere and the importance of being brave even when you are scared. This interactive piece features a text that is half English and half Spanish and brings opera to life at school!

Ms. Villanueva, St. John music teacher, will incorporate elements of opera into her April music lessons. Students in grade 2 will also have two performance preparation classes led by The Seattle Opera’s teaching staff before the performance. We are very excited about this opportunity for our students to experience music, art, Spanish and history!

Family Stem Night, Grs. K-5

We invite parents/guardians and students in grades K through 5 to Family STEM Night on Thursday, May 4, 5-6:30pm in Egan Hall. It is space-themed and will be OUT OF THIS WORLD! Students and parents will work together to build hovercrafts and radiation shelters, launch paper rockets, “act like an astronaut” and other stellar activities!

Needed: please consider donating empty and clean 2-liter soda bottles for a Family STEM Night activity. Please drop off the bottles with Mr. Tice.
