Counselor’s Corner
Happy November! As a Seattle native, I find the weather this time of year lovely. Blue skies, sunshine and cold crisp air are the backdrops for fall sweaters, scarves and pumpkin spice lattes. I don’t even mind the inevitable overcast skies, and rainy days are perfect for curling up with a good book.
Thank you for your participation in parent-teacher conferences. These conferences play a significant role in fostering strong partnerships between parents, teachers and the school community to support your child’s academic and emotional development.
Wishing you a wonderful November filled with warmth, growth and togetherness. As always, please feel free to contact me at smanley@st-johnschool.org. I work with students and families throughout the week and am happy to help you in whatever way I can!
November Resources
World Kindness Day is on November 13. It is a day to recognize the importance of being kind to each other, ourselves and the world. On this day, participants celebrate and promote good deeds and pledge to acts of kindness. Even just one act of kindness can turn someone’s day around and build a stronger community of healing and positivity. A couple of ways you can join in World Kindness Day:
- Share your pledge to acts of kindness on social media and use the hashtags #worldkindnessday and #makekindnessthenorm.
- Visit the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation for ideas on how to incorporate kindness into your everyday life.
November is also often associated with Thanksgiving, a time for gratitude. Encourage your child to reflect on the things they are thankful for and practice mindfulness. This practice can promote a positive mindset and a sense of well-being. Check out this great list with 20 Ideas to Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude In Your Children. It also comes with an awesome freebie: 21 Day Family Gratitude Challenge!
