Parent Association News
We hope you will be joining our community this Sunday, May 19 to celebrate Principal O’Leary and her many years of service to St. John and Catholic education. We are still looking for help to execute all the planned pieces of this event and make it a success. Please consider volunteering to help monitor action in the Play Pit so we can let our kids play during the celebration. There are also opportunities to assist with food service and clean up. Sign up here. Thank you for your support!

The Parent Association looks forward to welcoming Christy Keating of The Heartful Parent Collective for our Spring Parent Education Night. This conversation with Christy will focus on factual information and strategies for keeping children and teens safe(r) on the internet and social media. In light of recent events at the school involving inappropriate use of social media, this will be a great learning opportunity for all parents.
During this talk, Christy will address:
- Why basic safety information is as applicable online as in person;
- How to empower our children with boundaries;
- The primary risks to children that every parent should be aware of;
- The number one way to reduce risk for children on the internet (and in the world);
- How to adjust our rules and restrictions as our children grow;
- The “Cyber 7” Rules of Internet Safety;
- The good and bad of monitoring and parental controls;
- Helping our children learn and practice good digital citizenship as they grow;
- Managing screen time boundaries at different developmental stages.
As a former felony prosecutor and Certified Parent Coach®, Christy brings a unique and relevant perspective to this topic, incorporating research and her own professional experience. Read more about Christy here. We hope you will join us to learn more about this important topic.
