Health and Safety

Illness Guidelines: We will see more respiratory illnesses as students return to school. Keep students home if they show signs of illness and adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Fever: A temperature of 100.4 or higher is considered a fever, and individuals should stay home from school if they have a fever. Individuals should be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school.
  • Respiratory Symptoms, including COVID-19: These symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and/or headache. Individuals can return to school, when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
    • Fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications  AND
    • Symptoms are improving overall
  • When returning to school following a respiratory illness, extra precautions are recommended over the next 5 days, such as wearing masks around others indoors, washing hands frequently, and taking steps for cleaner air indoors*. Students may still be contagious with a respiratory virus after returning to normal activities, so it is important to take additional precautions.  (*The school’s new HVAC system includes MERV-13 air filters throughout the campus.)
  • No testing is required to return to school.

Rapid Covid Tests: The school will no longer offer free Covid tests, as the Department of Health’s program ended in June 2024. Starting at the end of September, families will be able to receive 4 free Covid tests from the government with this link: https://aspr.hhs.gov/covid-19/test/Pages/default.aspx

On-Campus Vaccination Clinic – Friday, October 18: The school is once again hosting an optional vaccination clinic for students on campus on Friday, October 18, during the school day. The flu vaccine and updated Covid booster will be available. The link to sign up for the clinic will be in next week’s NewsViews.

Medications at School: The school must have a medication authorization form signed by a licensed health professional in order to administer medication (prescription or non-prescription) at school. Email school nurse, Dora Hall, for the Medications at School form. Medication(s) are provided by the parent/guardian and kept in the school office. They are administered by the school nurse and/or a designated staff member.

Students cannot keep any medications of any kind in their possession at school. This includes Tylenol, Advil, cough drops, topical ointments, etc.

  • Exceptions such as needing to carry an inhaler, Epi-Pen, etc. require special signed authorization on the medication authorization form. Email school nurse, Dora Hall, for more information.

Please make sure to let the School Office and our school nurse, Dora Hall, know of medications that your student may need at school.
