Blessing of the Pets

The Parish Family 14 Francis of Assisi ministry invites you to bring your pet to the St. John schoolyard on Sunday, October 12, for a blessing. Father Parrish will bless pets between Noon-12:30 pm.

Please note that we anticipate animals of all sizes and types, and we don’t wish any to be harmed. Thus, we require all dogs to either be leashed or carried in a secure dog carrier. In addition, all other animals (e.g., cats, birds, hamsters, snakes, etc.) need to be brought to the schoolyard in a secure carrier.

If you can’t bring your pet in a secure carrier or if you can’t control your leashed dog, please leave your pet at home and bring a photo for Father Parrish to bless.

Annual Blessing of the Backpacks Food Drive for BTK-8 & St. Vincent de Paul was another HUGE Success!

THANK YOU does not begin to convey the gratitude for all the food that was collected for Broadview-Thomson K-8’s Food Program & our St. Vincent de Paul chapter at St. John.

The 2025 Blessing of the Backpacks last Friday and Sunday was a wonderful testament to who we are at St. John Parish and School! Friday began with food dropped off on the school playground, followed by a blessing of the food at the School Mass, and ended with Fr. Parrish and Fr. Nkolombidzo blessing the students in their classrooms. On Sunday at the 10:30am Mass, Fr. Nkolombidzo called forward those who brought their food donations to the altar for a blessing.

Once again, a big thank you to the 6th and 8th grade students and teachers for their assistance getting the word out, directing the food drop-off, bringing the items to the Parish Office, and sorting.

We also thank Vanessa, BTK-8 Food Program Director, and David and Katie Masiello, from our SVdP chapter, who helped carry, sort, and distribute the food.

What a great community we have at St. John!

POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN ST. JOHN’S XDC

St. John is looking for a few more XDC employees to staff our after-school program (2:30-6pm) M-F. We can hire ages 16+, and it would be a great job for an older high schooler or college student. Our greatest need is M-F, 4-6pm. Contact Abby Mansfield or Rachelle Overby if you know of anyone who might be interested.
