Summer Learning Opportunities

We encourage students to take the summer holiday to slow down, relax and enjoy time with family and friends. We also encourage students to take a journey in a good book, play math games and write poems, letters, or journal entries to combat the summer slide. Take a look below at the summer learning opportunities from St. John.

Math: Each student in grades PreK-7 will receive a Summer Solutions! math workbook from the school to help them keep their math skills sharp through the summer. These books come to us through the Federal Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools act (EANS), and are intended to help students improve skills that may have suffered gaps due to virtual learning during the pandemic. Have you already purchased one for your student? Please feel free to donate one to Mrs. Olsen for use in class. Note that this is a one-time opportunity for St. John students. Books will come home with students on June 8, 2023.

Reading:  Interested in having your child do some summer reading? Check out ReadCamp. You will need to register your child for this online opportunity. It is open online NOW through Labor Day. Scroll to the bottom of the ReadCamp homepage and sign up under “New/First READCamp Participant or Team.”

Summer Learning Incentive: To keep your child’s mind, body, and spirit active, St. John teachers are offering an opportunity to continue making growth over the summer toward our schoolwide learning expectations. Ideas for grade-appropriate activities are below. Try one activity per category (mind, body, spirit) each week. Participate in the Summer Learning Incentive Program, track your activities and earn free dress!
