Principal’s Letter

The leaves are changing color, the rain is falling, the days seem shorter and we are almost at mid-term. It is hard to believe that teacher conference time is here! Conference dates are October 28 – 30. We realize that it is a lovely time to take a break and head out of town with the children but ask that you respect that we have set those days aside to meet with you about those same children and that you schedule accordingly. Make sure that you sign up online today.

As I visited the classrooms this past week, I noted that the teachers are well into the meat of the curriculum. The Kindergarteners enjoyed teaching me about sorting and beginning sounds, second graders were exploring math fact families and the fifth graders were exploring new worlds with Christopher Columbus. The seventh graders are studying Gothic literature, just in time for Halloween!

Outside of the classroom, the faculty has reviewed and collated the suggestions and proposals put forth at the stakeholders meeting and we have prepared a revised Mission Statement and new Student Learning Expectations.   We will present both at the next School Commission meeting and with Fr. Crispin’s blessing we will publish them.

In the meantime, you have more opportunities to be involved in the great work that is happening at St. John! On Saturday, you can put on your gardening gloves and join the work party to beautify the sidewalk area around Egan Hall. Then on Friday October 16, put on more glamorous attire for the Endowment Event and celebrate Fair Share!
