We are a strong community together!
State of the Parish
Catholic school education places an emphasis on the school as community and here at St. John that sense of community is among the top reasons for sending your children here, according to the survey you responded to in the Spring. We are an educational community of persons rooted in the conviction that Jesus provides the most compelling example of how we live our lives, and our community home is St. John Parish. We are the biggest ministry in the parish, your parish. This weekend, all in-parish school families are required to attend one of the Masses to hear how our parish is doing. At the end of Mass you will receive your parish sacrificial giving packet. Each family has a named, prepared packet and it will be handed out in the vestibule. You will indeed realize what a fine community St. John’s is, and how well resources are used in the communal witness to the Gospel message of love of neighbor and service to others. I look forward to seeing you there.
Dr. Tom Curran – Family Joy
The Parent Association and St. John Parish invite you to a talk on Family Joy! On Tuesday, November 17th, come hear dynamic speaker Dr. Tom Curran, Director of Trinity Formation Resources, a non-profit ministry dedicated to helping Catholics understand, live and share their Catholic faith. He’ll share four ways to flourish as a family:
- Hear humorous and touching stories from Tom’s family that will inspire you.
- Learn how to build a faith-centered, thriving family.
- Hear principles and practices for praying as a family.
- Discover tools for living out God’s plan for your family on a daily basis.
Join us on Tuesday, November 17th, at 7pm in the Church!
Mission Statement and Student Learning Expectations
Our goal is to provide our students with relevant, authentic, research-based curricular experiences infused with a strong Catholic identity, so that they can achieve to the best of their potential. The Western Catholic Educational Association conducts an accreditation process that keeps us on track as we work to achieve our goals. Every six years we have the opportunity for a very specific self-study process leading to the re-accreditation of the school. We began the process last Spring when we sent you the survey. In the Fall we invited you to the Stakeholders Meeting where we reviewed the Student Learning Expectations and collaborated on the expectations that students graduating from St. John over the next six years will be expected to meet. Following that meeting, the faculty and the School Commission gathered the many suggestions and came up with the new Student Learning Expectations and the new Mission Statement. See the attached documents. The teachers and students will begin to make these SLEs part of our everyday language and work to provide opportunities for embodiment of the standards and their assessment.
Beannacht,
