CYO Pre-K and Kindergarten

All Pre-K and Kindergarten students in the school and parish can participate in both Cross Country and Soccer.  Both sports are held in the Fall. Students will have access to more great offerings beginning in Grade 4.

These two sports are easy on time commitment and low stress, but they are huge community and friendship builders. Not only will your children have access to great coaching and events, but they will make friends doing it (and so do the parents). CYO Athletics is a great way to have your children play sports with their friends, try new sports in a loving and forgiving environment, and even play for championships in middle school.

Registration for Cross Country and for Soccer opens on May 4, through an online portal called SportsPilot, accessed through the CYO webpage (https://st-johnschool.org/student-activities/athletics-2/).

Here is some basic info on both sports for your planning:

SOCCER:

Coach/Volunteer Sign Up info – Anyone aspiring to coach through your St. John years or parents who just want to play with their children and their friends can start that journey with Kindergarten and Pre-K Soccer. If you are interested, be sure to sign up in the SportsPilot registration system as a coach when you sign up your child. After you register, Soccer Coordinator Matt BonDurant will get in touch with details. Contact Matt at matt.bondurant@procareportal.com with questions.

The Program – Each week players will learn basic skills for 30 minutes and scrimmage with their friends for 30 minutes. It is a completely closed league and almost all students participate. Youth small jerseys can be purchased if desired during registration. Pinnies are provided and used for scrimmages, so jerseys are just for fun and likely a bit large, but children do like them.

  • When: Sunday afternoons in September and October around 4pm for 1 hour (exact times TBD)
  • Where: Sandel Park in Greenwood
  • Who:  All registered St. John and St. Alphonsus Pre-K and Kindergarten students and/or parishioners
  • Cost: $40 per player (plus jersey if wanted). Scholarships are available at CYO-scholarships@st-johnschool.org

CROSS COUNTRY:

Practice – Practices are great fun, fully optional for the early grades and held at “Metro Hill.”  Metro Hill is the south end of Woodland Park. Practices start in September and times are generally 5:45–6:45pm on Mondays (Grades Pre-K–3) and Fridays (all teams). Most participants try to make it to at least the Friday practice. Please see the website for more details.  Email Coach Joe Sperry, jsperry@oz.net with questions.

Race Days – XC meets take place on Sundays over three weekends towards the end of September/October (2 preliminary and 1 championship). At this age, children run in the blue-ribbon race which takes around 4 minutes and is super fun to watch.  Only one race is required for runners to qualify for the championship meet.

Cost/Uniforms Info – Cost is $25 for the whole season. Wear purple (soccer jersey) or buy a t-shirt at practice.

Welcome to the team. See you on the trail and pitch soon! Go Eagles!
