WSCC Take Action Alert

Dear Catholic School Parents, Guardians and Stakeholders:

A bill that would require law enforcement to provide critical emergency communications to all schools needs your help!

Your state representatives are considering a bill (SSB 5514) that would require law enforcement to provide critical notifications to a school (whether public or private) when an emergency necessitating a lockdown or evacuation is happening in the school’s vicinity. This practice is not currently required by state law and there are many examples of Catholic schools, non-Catholic private schools, and even public schools not receiving notifications of ongoing threats to students and staff.

Please contact your representative today and encourage them to protect all children! Visit the Washington State Catholic Conference’s Action Center to connect directly to your local representative (based on your address) and provide an email message encouraging their support of the bill. You may use the message provided as it is already written or personalize it for greater impact!

SSB 5514 has received unanimous, bipartisan support in the Senate and needs only a full vote of the House of Representatives to send the bill to the Governor for his signature.  Please take action now!
