Distance Learning at St. John School

St. John School appreciates the patience and the effort everyone has made transitioning to our Distance Learning Plan (DLP).  These times we are reminded of the strength of our community. Parents, students, and teachers jumped right into the DLP waters. You did not hesitate.  You met the challenge and continue to do so.  This is another example of how Catholic education, and community, rise to the top.  Collaborators in our students’ education, together we acknowledge that distance learning will never match in-person instruction. However, teachers will continue to support our students’ on-going education by delivering and assessing content with commitment and care.

The school uses a scaffold approach to deliver both traditional content and interactive technology (video conferencing, streaming, collaborating) throughout the closure. You can also expect to hear from teachers and administrators with helpful hints on remote learning, such as:

  • Parents of PreK-5th grade students
    • Monitor daily email communication from teachers
    • Collect completed assignments as requested by teachers
    • Contact individual teachers directly via email with any questions or clarifications on assignments.  Teachers will respond during the hours of 9am-3pm, Monday-Friday.
  • Middle School students
    • Monitor their St. John Office 365 email accounts daily
    • Check teacher and specialist webpages for updates on assignments
    • Submit assignments as requested by teachers
    • Contact individual teachers directly via email with any questions or clarifications on assignments.  Teachers will respond during the hours of 9am-3pm, Monday-Friday.
    • Check PowerSchool on Thursday nights to check for missing assignments.  These can be completed on “Catch-Up Friday.”

Administration, teachers, and staff are continuously working to create a cohesive and comprehensive Distance Learning Plan (DLP). Inevitably, the DLP will evolve, and together we will learn and share what works and what doesn’t. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of the teachers or administration with any questions or concerns. Take a deep breath, offer up a prayer, and go to work. You can do this! We can do this!
