Principal’s Letter

Sweet craft projects and vases of spring blossoms sat on brightly covered tables. Children’s artwork covered the walls, and the photo booth was ready. We were ready to welcome grandparents and special friends for the first time in three years! Yesterday was a glorious day as, three times over, Egan Hall was filled with eager family members and friends delighted to be able to attend live performances. The children performed enthusiastically. Thank you, Mrs. Tsagalakis, for directing the students. Thank you, Ms. Kay, for encouraging their artistic talents, and thank you, Mrs. Skokan and the team of volunteers, for bringing back this cherished tradition and making it all so lovely! God bless you, grandparents and special friends!

And God bless the many students who have embraced making friendship art to share with Ukranian refugee children. Parent Veronika Wellnitz, who organized this incredible act of friendship and support, writes:

First of all, thank you so much to all of your children who have helped create friendship bracelets & pocket art this last month for me to take to Poland and share with the Ukranian refugee children. My heart is so incredibly touched by the love even the youngest came up with to show their support and unity to children on the other side of our world who have had their ordinary days completely transformed…We have hundreds of absolutely amazing little notes of best thoughts and beautiful drawings to share, and I can’t wait for other children to hold and feel the love from Seattle.

Children may still contribute art and may drop them off in the box next to Principal O’Leary’s office (by Monday). Contact Ms. Wellnitz if you have any questions. Thank you, students, and thank you, Ms. Wellnitz, for your love and action.

Many more special activities are coming up this month: tonight we welcomed our PreK families, and next week the school welcomes kindergarten families and new families, grades 1-8, to an adult/guardians-only happy hour. Get those bikes ready this weekend as next Friday, 5/20, is National Bike to School Day. And don’t forget to order Hot Lunch for June. The last day of lunch service is Friday, June 10. Preparations are underway to celebrate our wonderful students in grade 8! They graduate on Sunday, June 5, at 1pm.

Together we can!
