Principal’s Letter

This evening, we welcomed families of students in kindergarten and new families of students in grades 1-8. Last week, we met the new preschool families. These evenings allow us to continue building the community that is so important here at St. John.

On Friday, we reduce our carbon footprint and get exercise by biking to school! It is National Bike to School day, and it looks like the weather will cooperate. Let’s try and win the prize for most student riders in the city! So, get out the bike and pump up the tires! If you don’t have a bike, walk or jog in – that way you are also doing your bit for the environment and for your health! There will be prizes and raffle for all student participants. Please wear a bike helmet and bring your bike lock.

By leaving your car at home, you will also be responding to Pope Francis’ call to develop a loving awareness of this home we share. Next week, May 22-29, Laudate Si week, will mark the seventh anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical on the care for creation. Worldwide events will celebrate progress and highlight the need for further efforts to protect our earth.

Over the next few weeks, we will be busy with school, faith traditions, and activities. Congratulations to those students who will make their First Holy Communion this weekend and in June. On Thursday, May 26, there will be an all-school Mass for the Feast of the Ascension, which will be live-streamed from the St. John Parish FB page. This is a dress uniform day. The next day, Friday, May 27, is Free Dress since students turned in their Auction Raffle tickets. June brings wonderful traditions like Confirmation, School’s Out-Grill’s Out and Baccalaureate and Commencement; we are so excited to celebrate these traditions and activities with you!

Blessings,

Bernadette O’Leary
