Principal’s Letter

I am excited to see you all at the Back to School BBQ! Thanks to the Parent Association and their team for all of the preparations. Chef Michael and Ethan Stowell are prepping the menu. Volunteers are already setting up and more staging will occur tomorrow. The Parent Association is in need of volunteers to make this evening a success. I know you will sign up to work a volunteer shift and support the St. John team. We are expecting a huge turnout – over 800 reservations have been made! Plan to carpool, walk, bike or park far away! N. 79th St. between 1st Ave. NW and Greenwood Ave. N will be closed so that we can party on the street. Bring your chairs, your appetite, and be ready for School of Rock to perform on the playground at 7pm! Be sure to check in when you first arrive (see the Back to School BBQ map).

Jog-a-thon fever is in the air! Be sure to read the 2022 Jog-a-thon information packet for details about scheduled jog times, prizes and more. Check your child’s backpack; paper copies went home Tuesday. Students of families with $150 or more in donations by tomorrow, Friday, September 9 will be entered into a $25 scrip raffle! Turn in your coupon (included in the Jog packet) to your homeroom teacher. Our fundraising goal is $100,000.

Visits to the classrooms, the lunchroom, and recess tell me that students are happy to be back in groups and departments. Parents/Guardians – it will soon be your turn to experience being ‘back to normal’ as Curriculum Nights are back to in-person this year. These are important meetings for you. You will learn about classroom expectations and the standards for your child’s grade. Kindergarten-5th grade Curriculum Night is a week from today (9/15). We will see middle school families on Thursday, 9/22.

Let’s maintain this ‘normal’ pattern by keeping children home if they are sick; remember to report all absences to the school (illness, appointments, out-of-town). We are still in need of a Playground Supervisor. If you cannot commit to this position, consider volunteering once a week as a playground monitor. Contact Principal O’Leary if you are interested.

Best of luck to many of our CYO soccer teams as they kick games off this weekend. Look for our cross country runners training around campus on Friday evening!

See you tomorrow!
