Principal’s Letter

I have been praying for our community this week: praying for those of you who were impacted by the storm, praying in thanksgiving for the generous ways you give, praying for peace and joy as we enter into the holiday season, praying for those individuals in our greater community who struggle with housing and food insecurity during the cold, dark months of a PNW winter – prayer grounds me and reminds me to hold fast to that which is important in this life and reminds me I am loved.

Thank you so much for your generous donations to the St. John Endowment this fall. We are happy to report we exceeded our goal of $30,000 for this year. If you have not donated to our Endowment and would still like to contribute, you can do so here. Thank you, families!

Did you know, thanks to teachers and parent volunteers, this past trimester we were able to offer 14 middle school electives? From Fashion to Robotics to Managing your Millions to the History of Music, these offerings continue to add a diverse and enriching experience for our students. This past weekend, Sue Pierce, our Speech and Debate elective teacher, took her team to the AMHS Speech Tournament. Congratulations go out to the entire team, especially to the following students for their tournament/open/novice wins: Indy Y., Elle G., Sofia O. Mila W., Christina F., Mimi R., Holland P., Marlo O’R., Melsie W., Kira B., and Gabriella D. A special thank you to parents, Beth Rubin, Tonya Ruf, Becca Young, Amanda O’Rourke, Maryanne Osaki, Sarah Vialpando, and Amy BonDurant for volunteering to judge.

Reminder: our annual St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Drive runs through next Tuesday, November 26. Thank you 6th grade teachers and students for helping make this drive a success. Please also take time to review the Inclement Weather Reminder post. With the bomb cyclone this week and winter still to come, it is a good time to review our communication procedures.

I look forward to celebrating Grand Day with our intermediate students and families next Wednesday, November 27. Remember, this Early Dismissal day (noon) is a Dress Uniform day for all students.

Please note: the Play Pit and parking lot will be closed after school tomorrow, Friday. Please exit school grounds immediately upon dismissal as the funeral of longtime parishioner and St. John graduate, Loretta Fletcher, class of 1945, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2pm in St. John Parish Church. Until only recently, Loretta was a fixture on the St. John campus volunteering in the Parish and attending student Masses.

Recall, NewsViews will not be published next Thursday. Enjoy your Thanksgiving holidays!
