Principal’s Letter

We have kicked off trimester three with a bang! Yesterday, our middle school students were eagerly participating in their new electives; I watched students as they learned more about their brains and neuroplasticity in our new Mindset Madness elective, students were learning about pie charts and the NASDAQ in Managing their Millions, and our young engineers were problem-solving and coding away as they worked on building working robots in our Robotics elective. Our Makerspace elective students are hard at work preparing for our upcoming Family STEM Night event on Thursday, March 27th, 5-6:30pm in Egan Hall. We hope to see many of you there for an evening of hands-on science activities; it is sure to be a blast! (Pun intended.)

Trimester two report cards went home with students today. These reports are a great time to check in with your student, have them identify some things they are proud of, areas where they have been stretching themselves and working hard, and set some goals for areas of growth for trimester three. It is also a good time to review behavior expectations – despite our continued cooler temperatures and winter weather, Spring has definitely sprung here at school – and we are seeing more recess behavior issues, misuse of technology, and off-task behaviors in the classroom. We are reminding our students to be kind, focused, and their best selves while here at school and ask that you help reinforce these important tenets at home.

Have you secured your auction tickets yet? We are approaching 400 tickets sold. There are just five days left to purchase tickets, don’t miss out! I want you there to celebrate and contribute to our fundraising goal.

Speaking of a celebrating, The Keith Highlanders Pipe Band, including St. John school parent Tim Flanagan, will help bring in St. Patrick’s Day on Monday before school. Join us on the blacktop before school for music and cheer. Student may add green accessories to the school uniform for Monday!

I look forward to seeing many of you this weekend at our middle school musical production of Annie Jr. Thank you, Kari Aguila and the entire middle school musical team, for your time and dedication in providing this amazing opportunity for our middle school students and our community. You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile – and this production will bring one to your face for sure.

Break a leg, middle school musical cast and crew!
