Principal’s Letter

In the Gospel reading for the second Sunday in Lent, the disciples encounter a theophany; a voice from heaven speaks to them in a cloud saying, “This is my son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.” Our lives are busy, full of competing noises calling for our attention. During Lent we are encouraged to slow down and listen: listen to Jesus, one another, and ourselves. It is a time to quiet the distractions in our lives and focus on the things that really matter – our faith, our families, and our community.

Tomorrow, Friday, March 21, we invite you to join us for two faith-building opportunities. Several of our 6th-grade students will lead our school community in the Stations of the Cross at 2:30pm in the church. Later that evening, we are hosting the Parish Family 14 soup supper event, starting at 6:30pm (sign up here). These events are great opportunities to come together as a community for fellowship and prayer, and we would love to see you there.

Speaking of ‘seeing you there’, I look forward to seeing over 400 of you Sailing Away at our auction on April 4th! Our first record, the greatest number of tickets sold, has already been set, and I can’t wait to set some more. We need your help to make this essential fundraiser a success, so please consider volunteering or donating to the donating to the Dessert Dash, and get ready to donate big – let’s make this a night for the record books.

Our middle school Makerspace elective students are excited to host our Family STEM Night next Thursday, March 27th, 5-6:30pm in Egan Hall. Thank you, Mr. Bretz, for your leadership. And, don’t forget, next Wednesday, March 26th is class photo day, and all students need to be in dress uniform, which includes the navy-blue St. John sweatshirt.

Love our community? Want to share it with your friends? We still have a limited number of spots available in our Kindergarten for the 25-26 academic year, so spread the word! Reach out to Jonna Skokan, jskokan@st-johnschool.org, with any admissions questions.
