Principal’s Letter

I want to take this opportunity to provide you with more information about yesterday’s incident in our Extended Daycare. Today, we again contacted Seattle Police. We have an active case number, and should this individual approach campus again, he will be trespassed by Police. We also learned this individual frequented other businesses yesterday in the neighborhood, including one owned by a St. John family. The school is including a picture of the man. If you see him on or near campus, please contact the Police. I have reviewed with our staff the response to yesterday’s incident, and we remain committed to providing a secure, responsive, and faith-centered environment for your children. In order to help keep our campus safe, I’m asking you to be vigilant around our entry points. Continue to close doors upon entry and exit and use your voice if you don’t recognize an individual on campus. Continue to alert staff when you see or sense something that is suspicious. Anytime an event of this nature occurs on our campus, our safety committee will convene to review our response, best practices, and how we might grow our emergency protocols. Yesterday, the XDC team acted quickly, utilized their training and security tools to ensure the safety of the students. I commend them for their efforts.

This weekend is the State of the Parish presentations. Attendance at one of the presentations is a requirement for In-Parish School Families. Parish stewardship envelopes will be available in the vestibule at the conclusion of all three masses. This envelope includes your Stewardship letter from Fr. Parrish, your pledge card, and the Parish Fair Share Stewardship Agreement. If you take part in this program, the agreement must be signed and returned to the Parish Office. We look forward to seeing you at one of our three mass offerings this weekend.

The parish wants to hear from you! You can share your thoughts, hopes, and ideas for our Parish Family by filling out our short Parish Family Survey, open until November 16. This vital input will help us as we actively discern next steps for our Parish Family.

Do you have friends and family looking to join the St. John community? Be sure to let them know about the Pre-K, K, 1 open house next Thursday, 11/6, at 6pm in Egan Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to hear about all the things that make this community special.

Congratulations to Audri, Ellie, Harrison, Johnny, Kate, Katherine, and Phoebe who competed at the Seattle Prep Math Contest last weekend. Spooky math challenges delighted 8th graders from all corners of the Archdiocese! Katherine’s guess was the closest estimate for the number of Skittles in the jar, and the St. John team took home the raffle prize!

Have a safe, albeit wet, Halloween.

We all have something this world needs –
