Principal’s Letter

We all have something this world needs, and this week we have seen that in action! On Monday, the teachers met together for our staff retreat. We discussed the communal nature of the sacraments and reflected on the many ways we work together as a team to reflect the body of Christ as we look for the helpers and lend a hand to one another. On Wednesday, our 3rd graders led a beautiful prayer service to honor the special veterans in their lives. Inspired by a class prayer and religion lesson about the unhoused in our community, Libby G, in 3rd grade, challenged her class to bring 100 cans of food for children experiencing food insecurity; they exceeded that goal in just one week! Our 6th graders have been gathering the hygiene-kit donations from the classrooms and are organizing them in the 2nd floor hallway – it warms my heart to watch these boxes as they fill up, knowing these small donations will have a big impact in our community. Our students are learning to be empowered disciples, and they take these lessons with them when they leave the St. John community. Bishop Blanchet recently held their annual Urban Plunge Retreat, and over ¼ of the participating students were St. John alums. Caring for our community is integral to the St. John mission. Thank you for joining us as we work in solidarity to care for the marginalized in our communities.

A huge shout-out to Nurse Dora and her team of volunteers for organizing tomorrow’s on campus Flu and COVID vaccine clinic. Reminder – all students who will be participating in the Vaccination Clinic MUST bring a copy of their insurance card to the clinic.

We are excited to kick off the holidays on November 25, with our special Intermediate Grand Day event. This Grand Day will be grand indeed, parents-grandparents-friends and other family members are invited to attend. We will have treats and activities, and Ms. Villanueva and our intermediate students will entertain us with their holiday music extravaganza.

Join us tomorrow morning for our Parent Association meeting, after drop-off in Egan Hall.

We all have something this world needs,

Principal Abby Mansfield
