Principal’s Letter

We have a lot to be grateful for this week. To start, I want to share an important safety update regarding Joseph Backus, the individual who made threats against members of our community in June. We received word today that Joseph Backus has been civilly committed to Western State Hospital. While we are not privy to the duration of his commitment, we will be notified prior to additional hearings that could result in a less-restrictive placement or discharge, and we will continue to pass that information on to you. The safety of our community remains our top priority, and we are grateful to know this individual is receiving the medical attention he needs.

Thank you for supporting our hygiene drive. This afternoon, our 6th graders packed over 400 kits thanks to your generous donations. These kits will be distributed by the St. Vincent de Paul ministry to the unhoused in our community.

We invite you all to join us at mass this weekend, as we celebrate and honor all of our volunteers, including office helpers, classroom helpers, lunch room helpers, recess helpers, Parents Association, room parents, event volunteers, coaches and sports coordinators, auction chairs and volunteers, Jog-a-thon coordinators, and those involved in financial and development projects at our school. We have a highly involved and committed community, and we hope you’ll join us for this special thank you.

Thank you to Ms. Villanueva and our intermediate students who have been hard at work preparing for our Grand Holiday Performance next Tuesday morning. While we acknowledge this change in format may have been surprising to some members of our community, we want to assure you that the decision to combine the intermediate holiday show and Grand Day was an intentional and thoughtful decision, made in consultation with our intermediate teachers, administration and members of our parent community. We look forward to kicking off the holiday season together – all are invited and no RSVP is required to attend – see you Tuesday!

And, last but certainly not least, we are truly grateful to welcome the newest member of our community, baby Leon! Congratulations to Ms. Shaw and her family as they welcome this new arrival.

Recall, NewsViews will not be published next Thursday. We wish you a joyful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.

We all have something this world needs,

Principal Mansfield
