Principal’s Letter

Next week is Catholic Schools week and the archdiocesan theme this year is; When you pray, Move your feet. As you may recall, Annunciation Principal, Matthew DeBoer, quoted this African proverb in his remarks after the tragic shooting at his school earlier this year. When you pray, Move your feet is a call to action; it reminds us of our responsibility to stand in solidarity with the marginalized in our communities, to fight against injustice, and do the work of ensuring human dignity is extended to all God’s children.

This Sunday, we invite you to join us for our Catholic Schools Week Mass at 10:30am, followed by our Open House (11:30am-1pm). As you walk the hallways and tour the classrooms, you will see all of the ways our students are living out our school mission – striving for academic excellence, growing in their moral development, and acting with courage for the common good. They are moving their feet! Reminder, this is a Dress Uniform mass for our students.

The full schedule of events for next week, including dress-up days, is listed below, but I wanted to highlight, and invite families to participate in, our special When you pray, Move your feet fundraising event for our Unbound students on Thursday. We will begin our day together in the church at 8:30am, where we will pray the Rosary for our Unbound classmates. All students are encouraged to bring $1.00 (or more) to support our Unbound students, and throughout the day, students will compete in a school-wide Rock-Paper-Scissors event.

It is a big sports weekend in our community: our 6th and 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys CYO basketball teams will all be participating in CYO play off games this weekend – good luck and play well. There is also a little football game being played at Lumen Field this weekend, Go Hawks! Remember, kick-off isn’t until 3:30pm, so you still have plenty of time to attend our mass and Open House before the big game. We look forward to seeing you all there.

One housekeeping item for you: we will be sending out 2025 year-end giving statements before the end of the month to households with an email address and mailed to those with just a home address – do look out for it. Please feel free to contact Jonna Skokan, Director of Development at 206-783-0337, ext. 323, or jskokan@st-johnschool.org for any questions or updates. Thank you to families and friends who continue to support St. John School through generous donations!

When you pray, Move your feet; we all have something this world needs,

Principal Mansfield
