Principal’s Letter
In the Gospel reading for the third Friday in Lent, the scribes try to trick Jesus, asking him to choose the greatest commandment. Jesus, not one to be backed into a corner, answers, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, and strength AND love your neighbor as yourself.” This reading comes at a pivotal moment, the halfway point in our Lenten journey, and that is intentional. We need reminding of our ‘why’ – reminding us of the purpose of our Lenten promises. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer help us refocus on the important, not just the immediate; they help us grow closer to God, ourselves, and our neighbors. As we move into the second half of Lent, may we refocus on this simple truth – when we love God fully and love our neighbors well, we are living exactly as Jesus commanded.
We invite you to join us in the church tomorrow, at 12:45pm, as our 6th grade students lead us through the Stations of the Cross. Tomorrow night, the parish invites you to our annual Knights of Columbus Lenten Fish Fry in Egan Hall from 5-8pm. Please RSVP so they will have an accurate count for food preparation. Can’t make Stations at 12:45pm? There will be another set of Stations in the Church at 6pm.
Next Tuesday, March 17, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Students are invited to wear green accessories with their uniform. Join us on the blacktop before school as the Keith Highlanders Pipe Band kick-off our day of celebration. Later in the day, students from the Tara Academy of Irish Dance will perform in an assembly spearheaded by our Events Elective students. It will be a lucky and lively day, with fun had by all. Two days later, class pictures will be taken on Thursday, 3/19; it is a Dress Uniform day.
Report cards went home today; be sure to check your student’s backpack – celebrate their achievements and remember to set new goals for trimester three.
We all have something this world needs,
Principal Mansfield
