Principal’s Letter
It is time to warm your hands around the campfire and get ready to raise those bid cards! The live auction is just a week away and the Online Auction opens this Sunday, March 22, at noon and will close on Thursday, March 26, at 10pm. Have you registered, browsed and made your game plan? I know I have some favorites I will be bidding on this Sunday, and I know you will be as well. Let the friendly competition begin! The camp counselors are still looking for volunteers to help set up the campsite and fill other vital camp roles during our live event. We need you. Sign up here.
We all know there’s “vintage”… and then there’s vintage. Our bathrooms have certainly earned that title, and now they need your help! This year’s Fund-A-Need will support a much-needed refresh of these essential spaces, including updated lighting, acoustic ceiling, fresh paint, modern stalls, and yes – even mirrors. It’s time to bring these bathrooms out of the 1960’s and into a space that reflects the care and pride we have in our school, creating the welcoming environment our students deserve. Thank you for considering a gift to this year’s Fund-a-Need. Our desire is to have this project completed by summer’s end.
As educators we love seeing our students take advantage of enriching opportunities; recently several of our 3rd-grade students participated in the Storyworks Magazine writing challenge, and Gigi G.’s submission was selected as one of five nationwide winners for October and November. Congratulations, Gigi, on your winning submission! Members of the Trimester 2 middle school elective, Launch Your Dream Business, spent this afternoon pitching their ideas to team members at Turnstyle in Fremont. A big thank you to Matt Diefenbach for creating such an engaging, real-world learning opportunity for our students!
‘The pirates are coming…. to St. John!’ For a third year, Melissa Riddington (5th grade parent) and Ms. Villanueva are pleased to announce the Seattle Opera will be performing Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance tomorrow, Friday, 3/20 at St. John School. This comedic opera, about Frederic, a young man who celebrates his apprenticeship to a band of pirates, will surely be a hit with students and introduce them to opera in a fun, accessible, and enjoyable way. While you are welcome to attend this special performance beginning at 1:45pm in the school gym, please note: seating is limited. Adults attending the performance should plan on standing at the side of the gym for the duration of the performance. Be sure to sign in at the office before attending the performance. Thank you, Melissa and Ms. Villanueva!
Good luck to all our volleyball teams competing this weekend. Thanks to the many coaches and volunteers who are supporting CYO.
We all have something this world needs,
Principal Mansfield
