Principal’s Letter

The end of the year is fast approaching and many of you have already begun thinking about next year: mark your calendars, the next school year begins on Wednesday, 9/2. We will send out more about the dates for student drop-in days and pre-school orientation in the coming weeks.

Speaking of calendaring, the next few weeks are busy. Please be sure to read your weekly teacher letters, the Dates-to-Note section of NewsViews, and your grade level WhatsApp channels to make sure you don’t miss any key announcements or upcoming events. To highlight just a few: tomorrow is our last PA meeting of the year – come hear the year-end wrap-up, learn about volunteer opportunities for the upcoming school year, and raise a toast to outgoing PA Co-Chair, Maile. Next Thursday evening, 5/21, we look forward to mingling with our new school families at our ‘New Family Welcome Event’ beginning at 5:30 in Egan Hall. Thank you to our Welcome Committee and Mrs. Skokan for organizing the evening’s festivities.

It has been wonderful reading the texts and seeing the photos our chaperones are sharing from the middle school trips this week. Yesterday the 7th graders had an amazing trip to our State Capitol. During lunch, St. John parent Justice Angelis took time out of his busy schedule to meet with the students and take them on a special tour of the Temple of Justice. Our 8th graders spent Wednesday in Alabama. The morning was spent in Selma working with Edmundite Missions touring Selma and walking the Edmund Pettus Bridge. After lunch the students took a motorcoach to Montgomery, traveling the path of the historic 1965 Voting Rights March. They spent the afternoon visiting the Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and the Freedom Monument Sculpture Park. Today they headed to New Orleans for the much-anticipated Cajun Encounters Swamp Tour. Thank you to our volunteers who make these trips a success!

Thank you for all you do to make the St. John community so wonderful – we all have something this world needs – and we are grateful for all of you.
