Principal’s Letter

Wow! Last Friday night was a blast. There is no better way to kick-off the school year than celebrating with 1,100 of our closest friends. Thank you, Chef Stephanie and her amazing kitchen crew, for putting together such an incredible spread. Thank you to our PA chairs, Liz and Stephanie, and their committed team of volunteers for organizing, and running, this huge undertaking. Thank you to our maintenance team for the additional hours you put in before and after the event, thank you Nutty Squirrel for the ever popular gelato treats, and thank you ALL for coming out on a Friday night to celebrate what makes St. John special – our community.

Tomorrow is Jog-A-thon! The weather looks to be perfect, check the running schedule in the Jog-a-thon post, and join us to cheer on our runners as they set their sights on running a collective 1,000 miles. Thank you for all of your donations; we are inching closer to our $100,000 goal. Every donation – big or small – makes a difference, and we would love to see 100% participation! Please note: access to 79th St. will be closed from 8:45am-2:15pm for Jog-a-thon.

The last few days have certainly been busy! As part of our ongoing safety and security training, our Safety Team led students, faculty, and staff through our fire drill protocols yesterday, with members of our local fire department on site to observe the drill. Our firefighters made an unexpected return visit this afternoon when a fire alarm was accidentally triggered in Egan Hall. Thankfully, there was no emergency, but the experience provided another opportunity to put our safety procedures into practice.

Last night was our first School Commission meeting of the year. This 16-person advisory board, chaired by Rachael Groark, meets monthly to consult with school administration and is an essential part of our St. John leadership team; to view a list of all members, see School Commission.

Thank you for all you do to support this community! You are rooted in God’s love, called to make a difference.
