Principal’s Letter
Fall has officially arrived – the leaves outside my window are a gorgeous shade of red, there is a chill in the air, and over the next week, we are leaning into fall festivities, beginning with the Halloween Carnival celebrations tomorrow afternoon. Students may wear costumes to school. Costumes must be school appropriate, modest, and allow for easy movement by the child. Please no scary costumes, and leave all weapons and props at home. Face paint, hair dye, glitter, and blow-up costumes are not allowed; students may bring masks to school to wear during the Halloween Carnival. Next week Senora Blanca will lead her students through Día de los Muertos activities. Thank you, Senora Blanca, 8th grade teachers and students for leading these events.
On Friday, November 6, our Faith Formation team will lead the faculty in our fall Christ in the Classroom retreat, Forming for Life in Christ: A Ship Sailing Toward Beatitude. These twice-yearly retreats provide a meaningful opportunity for our staff to come together, deepen their faith, and reflect on how it guides and inspires all that we do at St. John. We are grateful to our Faith Formation team for thoughtfully preparing and leading this special day of reflection and spiritual renewal. Reminder, this is a non-school day for students.
Our Middle School Winter stage production is coming soon! Auditions for the production will be taking place the week of November 9! Audition materials and show announcement will come next week. This production is an amazing opportunity for your student to be a part of something bigger than themselves, to flex that creative and theatrical part of their brain, and create something they will remember fondly for a lifetime! Rehearsals will start the week of Nov. 17 and the production will showcase Feb. 26-28.
Coming up later this month are two great opportunities to invite others to participate in the St. John community. Friday, November 13, is Grand Day for students in grades 3-5; RSVP here. And, don’t forget to tell your family and friends about our PreK/K Open House on Thursday, November 19; all interested and prospective families are encouraged to attend this informational evening.
Congratulations to middle school students Hanna, Jimmy, Nico, Owen, and Peter for representing St. John School at the Seattle Prep Math Contest and bringing home the ‘Most Spirited’ title! For the second year in a row a St. John student’s estimate was closest to the number of skittles in the jar! Well done to Hanna, and all the St. John team!
As the CYO soccer season comes to an end, we wish to thank all the coaches and volunteers who lent their time and talents to this successful program. Congratulations to our 6th and 8th grade girls who will be competing in the championships on Saturday! Grab your purple and gold St. John swag and join us this Saturday to cheer these athletes on to victory! The 6th grade game is at 10:30am at Villa and our 8th graders will compete at 2pm at Bishop Blanchet Highschool – see you there!
An order link from KIDS Photography for your child’s individual student portrait landed in your inbox today. Please check those SPAM folders. Orders placed by Sunday, November 8th qualify for free shipping (choose ship to studio). KIDS will deliver those orders to school for distribution. A date for retakes will be shared in the coming weeks.
We are rooted in God’s love, called to make a difference,
Principal Mansfield
