Principal’s Letter

This week, we entered the Season of Advent. It’s easy to think of Advent as simply a time of waiting – waiting for Christmas, for family gatherings, and, alongside Mary, awaiting the birth of Jesus. But Mary didn’t just wait – she prepared. She prayed, traveled to be with her cousin Elizabeth, and most importantly, she said “YES.”

This Advent season, I am focusing on the hope and joy that come from preparation. I am looking for ways to say “YES” to God’s call – to serve my neighbor and work for the common good. I invite you to join me in embracing both the anticipation and active participation in the miraculous birth of Jesus.

Tomorrow, your students will enter into Advent through our all-school retreat. We would love to have you join us for Mass at 9am. Please remember, this is a Dress Uniform day for students. If you’re looking for more ways to say “YES” and help your neighbor this Advent, be sure to check out the giving opportunities highlighted in the Parish News post, including the Giving Tree and Broadview-Thompson K-8 School ‘Gift Tag’ programs. And, don’t forget, tomorrow is our First Auction Procurement Due Date – turn in your donation or auction item for a chance to win a free auction ticket.

Today, Trimester 1 report cards were sent home with your student. Check your child’s backpack! Take time to review these together, celebrate growth and hard work, and set some specific goals for Trimester 2.

December is always a busy and joyful time in our Parish and School community. We have several exciting events coming up, including Christmas performances, Family Mass and Movie Night on December 14 (sign up to volunteer here), and many opportunities to celebrate the season together. CYO Volleyball registration is now open on Team Sideline for grades 4–8 as well. Please keep an eye on the “Dates to Note” section of NewsViews so you don’t miss out on all these special moments.

Thank you so much for your support of the St. Vincent de Paul drive! Our community donated over 1400 items, which will be distributed to our neighbors in need.

Wishing you Joy and Peace this Advent season,

Principal Mansfield
