Principal’s Letter

Today is the first day of spring.  The weather is beautiful; the sun actually feels warm.  It is a blessing we can take advantage of right now.  We are also blessed by your messages of support and the photos you are sending. We miss the children. Be sure to check out our social media pages as we are sharing pictures, helpful pointers, and prayers there.

Thank you for attending to the online lessons and packets. The teachers are working hard to ensure your children keep on learning.  We realize that you may be overwhelmed by the amount of emails and app/website recommendations that you are receiving, so, for now, the administration will cut back on the daily messages, and we will publish NewViews only when there is something to report. Keep up with the messages from the teachers.

I have been in frequent contact with the Office for Catholic Schools (OCS) over the past few days. We have been discussing protocols like attendance and realistic student workload for distant learning. As we roll out the use of Microsoft Teams in grades 6-8 we are able to monitor work and daily engagement by the students. I know the students in grades PreK-5 are also attending to their daily work, thereby ‘present’ at the place of their distance learning. We will keep you posted on any new information coming from the OCS.

Thanks for all you have been doing to support your students at home. We know this is not easy. Many of our teachers and staff also have students at home they are “teaching” too. I know many of you have created “virtual” gatherings for your children so they can stay connected with their classmates. I trust you are monitoring and proctoring these gatherings keeping in mind developmental appropriateness and screen time.

Blessings,

Bernadette O’Leary
