Principal’s Letter

Dear Families,

Last week several of the region’s largest school districts, including Seattle, announced they intend to hold remote, online school only this fall.  I understand the decision of the public school districts as they have a variety of issues related to re-opening that we do not have.  I continue to meet virtually with the Office for Catholic Schools, and as of today’s meeting, the plan is to open our schools, with safety measures in place, for in-person instruction.  I think we all recognize that in-person instruction is the preferred option for all our students.  This decision to re-open is, of course, subject to change should King County Department of Public Health or the Governor mandate a campus closure.

The school acknowledges some families will choose not to return to in-person instruction immediately due to a variety of health concerns.  As we prepare our campus and map out instructional spaces based on physical distancing guidelines, it is necessary we have an accurate count of families planning to send their child(ren) to school for in-person instruction.  I ask you to complete the short survey included in today’s message so we can continue our planning.  Please complete the survey by Tuesday, August 4.

Should your family choose to not return to in-person instruction on campus, we will offer remote instruction online for those who require this option.  Instruction, both live or recorded, will be delivered each day through Microsoft Teams (grades 6-8) and Google Classroom (PreK-5).  Students will have opportunities to interact virtually with their classrooms each day.  Our Re-Opening Task Force continues to meet and is further developing plans for both in-person and remote instruction.

Completion of today’s survey is for internal planning purposes only.  We understand your preference or comfort level may change as new information emerges in the coming weeks.  This is simply an opportunity for the school to assess your family’s comfort with returning to campus for in-person instruction.  Thank you for your participation and feedback.  I look forward to welcoming our new kindergartners next week during the Meet ‘N Greet Drive-Through.  Look for my next all-school communication in early August.

Blessings,
Bernadette O’Leary
