Principal’s Letter

K-5 parents/guardians, hopefully, you are not reading this during Curriculum Night. After hearing from administration and teachers, we hope you are as excited about this school year as we are! We look forward to meeting with the parents/guardians of students in grades 6–8 next week. Unfortunately, I will miss that event as I have to attend the Principals’ Retreat on Catholic identity, but rest assured, Assistant Principal Kelley and the Middle School teachers are ready to share important information with you.

I said it tonight, but I reiterate how grateful I am to the PA leadership, Sara Dean, Allan Quiaoit and Madeline Pennington, for the organization and management of the Back-to-School BBQ. It was such a great community gathering and a wonderful way to start the year!

Our next big community event is the Jog-a-thon, and it’s coming fast! Students in PreK through grade 2 will lead the way on Wednesday, 9/21, with intermediate students jogging on Thursday and middle school students running on Friday! Keep those pledges coming in!

Wednesday, 9/21 also marks another wonderful St. John tradition: Blessing of the Backpacks. In its tenth year, we ask you to fill your students’ backpacks with food donations for our St. Vincent de Paul food bank and the Broadview Thompson K-8 Food Progam, which serves meals to over 500 children. Fr. Crispin will offer blessings to all. Blessing of the Backpacks will also take at the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, September 25.

Three housekeeping items:

  • Tomorrow, 9/16, is the deadline to register for Ms. Shaw’s K-5 Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) groups, which is one of the ways St. John supports students. For more information or if you would like your student to be considered for a group, please fill out this online form.
  • Remember to complete all required forms on the Back to School page
  • If you wish to volunteer this year, please submit a completed Volunteer COVID Vaccination Attestation form to Mrs. Q. in the office and complete (or be in the process of completing) Safe Environment training.

We Walk in the Light of God,

Bernadette O’Leary
