Fr. Augustus Tolton: The First Black American Catholic Priest | A Film Presentation

Sunday, Nov. 9, 12:15 PM | St. John – Egan Hall

Join us for a special 15-minute film presentation, “Tolton,” the inspiring story of Fr. Augustus Tolton, the first Black American Catholic priest and one of six Black Americans currently on the road to sainthood. The short film will be followed by an open discussion and light refreshments. This event is part of our observance of Black Catholic History Month, celebrating the faith, resilience, and contributions of Black Catholics throughout history. All are welcome! Did You Miss the Listening Sessions?

If you weren’t able to join our recent listening sessions, we still want to hear from you! You can share your thoughts, hopes, and ideas for our Parish Family by filling out our Parish Family Survey, open until November 16.

We’re all in this together – listening to one another and to the movement of the Holy Spirit among us. Discernment invites us to listen deeply, stay open, and trust that God is continually at work in each of us and in our community.

Together, we can discover and live out God’s will for our Parish Family.

Confirmation Registration is Open for Parish Family 14!

Our confirmation program will be hosted at St. John this year; all youth in grades 7 and up are welcome. Participants must be baptized Catholics. We will start our classes in person, in November 2025, with Confirmation scheduled for February 2026. Classes meet after the 8:30am mass. You can find the registration form here: https://archseattle.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/5366/responses/new

The sacrament of Confirmation is the third of the sacraments of initiation (the others are Baptism and Eucharist). For Catholics, Confirmation is the sacrament that signifies a deepening of one’s baptismal commitment and a strengthening of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Through Confirmation, individuals confirm their faith and become full, active members of the Church. Once confirmed, youth may participate in the liturgy as Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Lectors and Sacristans.
