From the Parish

Youth Group is coming back to St. John!    We need a core group of volunteers to give a few hours a month to make this an excellent experience for our Middle Schoolers.  Please get involved!  Email Kristin Kent if you are interested in any way!

It’s time to register for First Communion! If your family is registered in the parish, you have probably received a form in the mail. If you didn’t and need to register your rising 2nd grader for First Communion & Reconciliation prep classes, pick up a registration form from the literature holder in the church vestibule. Our program starts with a prayer service in the church on Monday, September 30, at 7pm. Questions? Contact Julia Rudden

Prayer Nuggets- Until we’ve prioritized prayer in our lives for some real period of time, a few years, it’s hard to take seriously the idea that prayer time is the most important part of our day.  How could it be?  We’re busy: job, family, other commitments, some me time to maintain sanity.  Sheila shared this answer with me.  It’s good.

Demonstrate your trust in Me by sitting quietly in My Presence.  Put aside all that is waiting to be done, and refuse to worry about anything.  This sacred time together strengthens you and prepares you to face whatever the day will bring.  By waiting with Me before you begin the day’s activities, you proclaim the reality of My living Presence.  This act of faith – waiting before working – is noted in the spirit world, where your demonstration of trust weakens principalities and powers of darkness.

The most effective way to resist evil is to draw near Me.  When you need to take action, I will guide you clearly through My Spirit and My Word.  The world is so complex and overstimulating that you can easily lose your sense of direction.  Doing countless unnecessary activities will dissipate your energy.  When you spend time with Me, I restore your sense of direction.  As you look to Me for guidance, I enable you to do less but accomplish more.
