Parish News

Mass for the Weekend of May 2 and 3

Mass will be live-streamed on our Facebook page at 5pm Saturday, 5/2.  You do not need a Facebook account to stream the Mass.  A recorded version will be available on Sunday, or you can watch the Facebook version, it just won’t be truly live.

Weekday Masses

Father Crispin will be celebrating daily Mass twice a week until we can gather again as a community.  All Masses will be live-streamed on our Facebook page.

  • Wednesday at 3pm with Adoration to follow.
  • Friday at 3pm with a special message for the families of our school community.

Can We Offer You Assistance?

St. Vincent de Paul Ministry     If you are at high risk or are afraid to go shopping, email us or call the parish office at 206-782-2810 and leave a message.  We will be happy to drop off one or two bags of canned or packaged goods from our pantry and deliver them to your door (no contact).  If you have special dietary needs, please let us know, and we will try to accommodate you as best as we can.

Can You Give Assistance?

Catholic Community Services Sewing Bee     A little known fact is that the Old English meaning of “bee” is “prayer or a favor.”  A “sewing bee” refers to “neighbors joining to work on a single activity to help a neighbor in need.”

CCS invites you to join Catholic Community Services Sewing Bee to help make 10,000 masks for the safety of CCS/CHS front line staff who are working around the clock to provide essential services to our vulnerable neighbors in need.  CCS provides sewing instructions and a list of CCS locations where you can drop off or mail your mask donation on its sewing bee page.

St. John Rosary for Those Affected by COVID-19     Join the St. John community in praying the rosary every week for all those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  We will pray the rosary together as a community (from our individual homes) on Saturday, 5/2 at 8pm, or you can pray at a time that works better for your family.  Click here for the link to this week’s rosary.  Click here to download a Rosary guide.

Please Give If You Can     “Give and gifts will be given to you.” -Luke 6:38  As many in our community struggle with the effects of Coronavirus, St. John has not been immune.  The decision by Archbishop Etienne to suspended all Masses until further notice was an important step in helping slow the spread of the virus and was not taken lightly.

Not being able to come together each week to celebrate the Eucharist has taken a toll on our spiritual life and also has seriously impacted our weekly collection.  Like most parishes, 90% of our revenue comes from the generous support of our faith community.  This generosity supports the basic operations (payroll, utilities, maintenance, etc.) and ministries of our church.  Your continued support of St. John will ensure the financial viability to get us through this crisis!  Please mail your donation or sign up for online giving.

Asante Sana to those who are already continuing to mail in checks and donate online. Your support means so much!

A Note from the Director of Sacraments

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to celebrate the Sacraments of our Church as we usually would.  Anointing of the Sick can be arranged; please contact us directly if that Sacrament is needed at 206-782-2810 or email to parishoffice@stjohnsea.org.  If it is a pastoral emergency, please call 206-300-0972.

Other sacraments (first communion, marriage, funeral masses) will be celebrated once we are able to join together in our church.  We ask that everyone offer up prayers for those families who are having to postpone a sacramental celebration.  We especially pray for our First Communion families, and for those families preparing for Baptism and entry into the Church.

Let us pray especially For those children who were preparing for First Communion prior to the pandemic, and who would have joined us at the Lord’s Table this very weekend.

Family Faith Formation in time of Crisis

It’s tough to stay in touch with our faith when we can’t go to mass or confession, can’t share time together as a community at coffee & donuts, or special celebrations such as First Communion.  For our children, the home is now their main source of faith, and parents are the lead catechists.

The Seattle Archdiocese Office of Marriage and Family Life has a website with resources to use to keep the faith at home.  Click here.

Questions about what to talk about with your children?  Need more resources?  I am happy to help!
