Principal’s Letter

As we continue on our Lenten journey, please join us in our virtual Stations of the Cross, led by our teachers.  Mrs. Jessup also shares this reflection with us; I thought it apt given our current situation.

Jesus had self-control.  Saving the world was hard.  Jesus walked many miles on rocky roads and often had to sleep outside.  He taught for hours under the hot sun.  He had to deal with people who attacked Him.  In the end, he was put to death on a cross.  He did what he had to do.  Jesus asked us to take up our cross every day and follow in his steps.  He challenges us to do hard things.

Reflection:  It takes a lot of self-control to make ourselves do what is right.

Prayer:  Jesus when something is hard, and I’m full of fright, let me pick up my cross and do what is right.

Next week is March – the month of St. Patrick’s Day and the AUCTION!  Rummage through your closets for your green gear and your ROCK star costume!  Lauren Exnicios led the School Commission through the details of the evening of March 19, and it’s going to be fantastic, so start planning your virtual evening. Thanks to all of you who have made your procurement commitment to the auction.  Remember to order your cocktails, dinner and dessert.  You are in for a grand time, and best of all, your children will benefit.  This year’s Fund-A-Need goes to supporting our operating budget. Programs, technology, books, materials, support staff, and Covid-19 PPE, are some of the many things your gifts to Fund-a-Need will support. Every single St. John student and faculty member benefits. Thank you, Lauren, Kristen, Andrea and the entire team! I know it will be a huge success.

Speaking of success, congratulations 8th-grade students and parents of 8th graders on their acceptances to high schools. Many of our students were accepted at multiple Catholic high schools. You did remarkably well! We take pride in your accomplishments.

Congratulations also, alumni!  BBHS announced that Gavin LaMotte, class of 2017, has been named a National Merit Finalist. We also heard about faculty members’ children who are alumni and their college acceptances. Mae Skokan has been awarded a scholarship to the University of Portland, and Jayden Mansfield has been accepted to New York University.

Thank you, St. John teachers, for helping our students soar!

We continue to be encouraged by the news of COVID-19 infection numbers decreasing in Washington. Thank you for making choices that protect our parish school community. As you are, perhaps, making plans for Easter vacation, please recall that as of today we are still adhering to the Governor’s recommendation regarding out-of-state travel. Students traveling out of state will be required to quarantine for 14 days, regardless of a negative COVID-19 test result, before they are able to participate in in-person learning or in-person activities.

Blessings,

Bernadette O’Leary
