Principal’s Letter

Grant Kelley is Principal for the Day! We are purple and gold all over, and I have the day off to enjoy it all! Mr. Kelley, Jr. announced the Soaring Eagle awards, visited classrooms, held a raffle for the teachers, and treated his class to donuts!

We started February with our annual Catholic Schools Week celebration, and what a wonderful week it has been! We began with Mass, during which Fr. Crispin led us as we gave thanks and prayed for the entire St. John community: parents, students, teachers, parishioners, and our local and global neighbors. Eighth-graders, Abby S. and Matthew M. spoke eloquently about faith, excellence, and service as they reflected on their experiences at St. John. And today, we celebrated our 8th-graders with some spirited volleyball, dancing, tug-of-war and more!

We honored and thanked you, parents and volunteers, and you thanked and treated us, faculty, and staff. We enjoyed our delicious lunches and treats, and the flowers continue to brighten the classrooms and offices. We are learning about so many of your interesting vocations! Thank you for zooming into our classrooms.

It is appropriate that this month’s Social and Emotional Learning lesson is focused on relationships wherein students will build on their understanding of communication, friendship, teamwork and cooperation – we saw this in action at the 8th-Grade Games! Our saint of the month, St. Jose Sanchez del Rio (February 10), is an example of a teenager who built his relationship with God. I hope we will all continue to strengthen our relationships with each other and with God.

As we continue with Catholic Schools Week celebrations, do remember that re-enrollment for current students and application for new siblings to St. John School are due February 9.

Go, Eagles!
