Principal’s Letter

As we celebrate the centennial of the school, we are also learning more about the saint for whom we are named, St. John the Evangelist, “the beloved disciple.” Each month we focus on words from his Gospel. In September, we reflected on St. John’s instruction to “love one another,” and our community took that directive to heart. Thank you, St. John families, for the generous donations to the Jog-a-thon, which supports the school’s daily operational needs. And thank you for your continued support of the BTK-8 Food Program. Your donations at the 10th Annual Blessing of the Backpacks made a huge difference to many of our neighbors. We received these notes of thanks from BTK-8:

“We are thankful for your support and partnership. Thank you.”“Thank you so much for the incredibly generous donations to our school and community. We really appreciate it!” “Thank you for your generous donations to Broadview-Thomson. We are thrilled to have your continued support. You truly make a difference in our students’ lives.”

This month, we reflect on how St. John described Jesus as the Good Shepherd, the gate for the sheep (John 10:11-14). At Mass yesterday, Fr. Crispin told us that Jesus cares for those who ‘labor and toil’-work hard. He asked the children who those people may be, and they eagerly raised their hands with answers such as parents, teachers, priests, Pope Francis, police officers, doctors, and so many more. Next week, we have an all-school Mass on Monday, October 10, which means Dress Uniform for all students.

Speaking of uniforms, tomorrow we celebrate the Mariners’ success and wish them luck with a Mariners’ Spirit Day; students may accessorize their school uniform with M’s hat, jersey, t-shirt, or top that matches M’s colors. Next week, we have another free dress day on October 13 to celebrate the success of the Jog-a-thon; thank you all! Looking further ahead, November 9 and 10 are student-parent-teacher conference days. There is no school for students on those days. Extended Day Care is open on Conference Days for those students who pre-registered. Be on the lookout for more details about conferences.

And to end this letter on a joyous note: we have been busy and happily celebrating St. John’s Centennial. Check out our Centennial pictures, videos, and historical documents, including a letter of congratulations from President Biden, on our Facebook and Instagram pages!

Thank you, St. John Community!
