Principal’s Letter

We are now in the season of Lent, a time of reflection that represents the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert.  While there, Jesus prayed to God his Father.  He fasted, he resisted temptation, and he asked for strength to help others.

Now we have 40 days to be like Jesus and to become stronger in our faith.  During Lent, we, as disciples, grow even more empowered.  We pray more; we fast from distractions. In the words of Pope Francis, we fast from hurting words and say kind words. We fast from sadness, anger, and pessimism and practice gratitude, patience, and hope.   We fast from selfishness, and we give to the poor.   We live out the church’s mission through participation in the Rice Bowl and through giving to local causes.

The youngest child in each family will bring home the Rice Bowls.  Take time to discuss the Catholic Relief Services and the work this organization and you accomplish with the funds collected.  Pray for those served.  Encourage the children to participate by doing chores and earning the money they donate.

Tomorrow morning, the fourth grade will lead the school in the Stations of the Cross at 8:25 am.  We will continue to follow the Stations on Friday mornings throughout Lent.   You are welcome to join us or attend the parish Stations at 6:00 pm.  There will also be a Soup Supper tomorrow evening at 6:30 in Egan Hall.

I encourage you to participate in Stations of the Cross, the Lenten meals, and other opportunities to enrich this holiest of seasons for you and your family.

Tomorrow is Mrs. Costa’s last day before she takes maternity leave. We wish her and her family the very best! Mrs. Zutz, her sub, is already a familiar face with the students as she has been assisting and teaching in preparation for these coming months.

Tomorrow also is the next Try-Me Day! The students will be offered an opportunity to try a sample of a food they may not ordinarily choose. Encourage the adventure!

Speaking of opportunity and adventure, the middle school musical opens next weekend! Make sure you get your tickets to Shrek, the Musical, Jr!

May you experience a fulfilling and mindful Lent. Beannachtaí an Charghais,

Bernadette
