Principal’s Letter

Welcome back, middle school students! Middle school students did their school, their families and themselves proud – we’ve only heard good things about their courtesy, enthusiasm and commitment to service. Thank you to the teachers, parent drivers and chaperones who helped make last week possible. This afternoon, without having to travel, students in grade 6 chatted with their Unbound friend, Josue, in Honduras via Zoom. It was a very special moment for the students to finally ‘meet’ the student they have been sponsoring for the last number of years. Thank you all for your generosity to this program.

You are probably wondering why NewsViews has repeat posts, especially in the past several weeks. NewsViews will go on summer hiatus after June 8, and we don’t want you to miss out on important topics, such as registering for fall soccer and cross country, stocking up on discounted classic logo wear or sponsoring the Jogathon before you head out for the summer.

Putting NewsViews on hiatus will give you a break from your device! Over the summer, we encourage you all to reduce screen time. Enjoy fun adventures, immerse yourself in good books, or challenge your family to some board games! Students are also encouraged to participate in the 2023 Summer Learning Incentive program. In the fall, we plan to host Emily Cherkin, M.Ed., on campus to help students and parents/guardians understand and establish intentional screentime usage.

Thank you, parents/guardians, for working with us to keep our students safe on and offline. We are continually accessing our campus security and have begun working with a local company – Highlander 6 – to perform a risk assessment of our entire campus along with a review of our safety and emergency protocols. Highlander 6 has worked with a number of private schools in the area, including Bellarmine Prep and St. Charles Borromeo, to provide assessments and recommendations focused on campus safety. The team is on campus this week and next week, after which they will create an individualized Security Assessment Report the school will use to inform and enhance our current protocols. The school will share the results of the report once the process is complete.

Some housekeeping items to end the letter:

  • Hot Lunch & Dick’s Drive-in Burger Lunch: The ordering portal for hot lunch closes tonight. If your child will be partaking in the free Dick’s Drive-In Burger lunch, make sure to order it by tonight. We need an accurate count.
  • American Heart Association: Please consider supporting the HEART work of the American Heart Association. The last date to donate is tomorrow, Friday, May 26.
  • School’s Out Grill’s Out Year-End BBQ: Remember to purchase tickets for the end-of-the-year bbq. Recall, tickets will not be available for purchase after May 30. We are looking for volunteers to help out at the BBQ – thanks for considering!
  • Uniform Exchange: The Uniform Exchange kindly asks for donations of regular and pant/skirt clip hangers. The Uniform Exchange will be open June 5, 3-3:30pm, and June 14, 10:30-11am. Thank you, Rula Saleh and Carissa Person-Hurley for all your hard work organizing the Uniform Exchange!
  • Dress Uniform: Remind your student that it is Dress Uniform tomorrow, Friday, May 26.

Thank you to Mrs. Villanueva, the kindergarten teachers and assistants, the Maintenance team, parent volunteers and kindergarten students for the performance of the Three Piggy Opera this evening. What a delight!

Enjoy the holiday weekend and please offer up prayers for the U.S. military personnel who have died while serving our country and Armed Forces.
