Principal’s Letter

In his memo to principals this week, Superintendent Nicholas Ford quoted from Sunday’s Boston Globe, and I am sharing it with you. It is a call to have the courage to act for the common good. Chika Okafor wrote, “MLK’s lesson is clear: The arc of the moral universe bends not from gravity but from the gravitas of our collective struggle to improve our communities, our society, and our world. The arc of the moral universe does not passively bend; it is actively bent. We bend it.”

Yesterday, despite ice and rain, the Wednesday Walking School Bus set out. When I announced that participants should come by my office so I could congratulate them, I discovered we had many students who regularly walk to school! We can have walking school buses from many directions. Walking to school has so many benefits: exercise, improved traffic flow, and it helps the environment!

There are many posts today, so do pay attention. Next week is the mandatory State of the School parent presentations. On Tuesday, January 23, the presentation will be on Zoom. On Thursday, January 25, we will have the in-person presentation in Egan Hall.

Also, note the Girl Scout’s call-out for winter clothing for those who are shelter-deprived. Donate new or clean, gently-used unisex large/extra large hats, gloves, coats, sleeping bags and/or blankets on January 23.

Read also the post and guidelines from Nurse Dora. Help us stay healthy by keeping the sick children at home.

The adventure continues, the plot thickens and Auction excitement is growing. The last day for procurement is Friday, January 26. What will you donate to this Novel Soireé?

On January 28, Catholic Schools Week opens with an all-family Mass at 10:30am, where we will offer the Cup. Following Mass, come and visit your children’s classrooms during the Open House. Check the CSW post to see how we will celebrate our community. You are also invited to come to your children’s classrooms and share your vocation, tell the students about your career and how you share your gifts. #CSW2024 is THE week when we celebrate our faith, our community, our academics and our mission.

See you all next week!
